Filing back taxes

You have three years to file a return and claim a refund, starting from the original due date or the extension due date if you filed an extension.

Penalties for late filing

If you are owed a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. However, if you owe taxes, penalties and interest will apply.

Self-employment income

Failing to file can prevent your self-employment income from being reported to the Social Security Administration, which can impact future Social Security benefits.

If you cannot pay

If you cannot pay your tax bill in full, please don't worry. I can help you! You should still file your returns to minimize penalties. The IRS offers several payment options:

Installment agreement

This program allows certain taxpayers to settle their tax debt for less than the full amount. To qualify, you must be in compliance with all filing and payment requirements and prove you cannot pay the full liability.

Offer in Compromise (OIC)

Failing to file can prevent your self-employment income from being reported to the Social Security Administration, which can impact future Social Security benefits.

Currently Not Collectible (CNC)

If you are experiencing serious financial hardship, the IRS may determine that you cannot pay your tax debt and temporarily delay collection until your financial situation improves.
